Receiving a Cancer Diagnosis

Receiving a Cancer Diagnosis

When receiving a cancer diagnosis, it can be very scary to the point it may feel unreal. It immediately affects how you see time and leaves you uncertain about what will happen next. Upon receiving a cancer diagnosis, it will leave you feeling hopeless at times. However, there are strategies that can help you get through this hopelessness and everything you may feel including uncertainties, anxieties, and depression. Feeling like you have lost a whole part of your life can be devastating, but there are others out there going through this too, and communities you can reach out to.  Remember you aren’t alone and that there are others out there you can connect with.

Some procedures that can help you cope with these feelings are finding things that help you relax, keeping a journal to help organize and track your thoughts and feelings, and reaching out to support groups and communities filled with others who understand what you are going through. Coming to terms with your cancer diagnosis is one of the hardest parts of the entire process, which in turn can make reaching out difficult when you don’t want to accept your diagnosis in the first place. You are going to be afraid but reaching out is worth it. In this group either we have been through this first-hand or have had a family member or someone very close to us going through it. I am sure you can find someone here that has been through what you are going through right now. You are not alone!
